Philanthropy Policy

The Propeller Club, Port of the Columbia River Chapter

The Board of Governors (“Board”) may, upon due consideration and procedure, use Club resources to facilitate, promote, or contribute to nonprofit organizations whose purposes or missions are consistent with the Club’s, or which provide social or educational services to homeless, in transition, low income, or otherwise at-risk children in the Columbia River region.  The Board may consider exceptions to this policy in its sole discretion.

Prior to formally designating a beficiary of Club resources, the Board should review and consider at minimum the following issues relating to the potential beneficiary (where applicable):

  • mission or purpose statement
  • nonprofit status
  • Internal Revenue Service tax-exempt certification status
  • financial statements and budget information
  • identities of the board of directors
  • sources of traditional funding
  • any other information deemed pertinent by the Board

The Club should require all beneficiaries of Club resources to publicly acknowledge the Club’s contribution or assistance within 30 days of receipt of such contribution or assistance.

The Club may, in its sole discretion, restrict its consideration of requests of charitable assistance to a once-annual basis, or on such other frequency as the Board deems appropriate, giving due consideration to the Club’s annual budget process.
